Earth Day Celebration Comes to Swartz Creek’s Westwind Farm

Natural Awakenings News: Earth Day Celebration Comes to Swartz Creek’s Westwind Farm

On Saturday, April 22, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Westwind Farm will feature beekeepers Steller Apiaries and environmental action group Sierra Club to celebrate Earth Day. Steller Apiaries have an off-the-charts survival rate for their bees and can tell how to save the bees, and Sierra Club’s Nepessing Chapter will have a display and activities on making environmentally sound choices daily.

Also, during the annual plant and seed exchange, bring one and take one home, whether flowers, veggies, houseplants or anything to trade for new. Family activities will include a Native American guidepost trail and plant identification, birdhouse and bat house making, creating kids’ egg carton gardens, and more. Sustainable living vendors with all handmade items will be in the Farm House all day, and there will be prepared healthy foods all day, as well.

Westwind Farm co-owner Linda Smith-Purdy says, “We’re hoping to educate and inspire people, especially children, about the one home we have, the Earth. Our life choices are so interconnected with our fate as a species and the fate of all life here on Earth. We hope to show how positive choices and energies can combine and make great changes for us all.”

The celebration is free to attend. Westwind Farm is located at 11487 Reid Rd., Swartz Creek. For more information, call Linda Smith-Purdy at 810-701-8151 or visit their website: WestwindMilling.com.
