The Need for NAD

NAD Therapy Boosts Energy in Brain Cells

by Keri Topouzian, D.O.

The Need for NAD -

NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a naturally occurring molecule that is essential for the metabolism of every cell in the body. More specifically, NAD reacts with oxygen in the mitochondria in each cell to produce energy for life. You breathe, pump blood, think and digest food thanks to NAD. Each cell has a particular function that needs energy, so it cannot do its function without NAD. Every cell needs NAD.

Lack of this essential fuel is recognized as a feature of depression, headaches, memory and sleep disturbances, focus and concentration deficits, weak immune system, chronic fatigue, muscle pain and weakness and chronic illnesses.

A critical factor is NADH (NAD’s reduced form), which enables the transfer of energy from food to vital cell functions, especially in the brain. Reduced levels of NADH can inhibit energy, which manifests itself through various cognitive and mental difficulties. These symptoms occur because the brain is not supplied with adequate energy to perform efficiently and to process neurotransmitters, the brain’s chemical messengers, which can cause many of the conditions listed above.

Research has shown that medical conditions improve with NAD therapy. Increasing NADH can boost production of chemicals that improve mood and brain function, repair neurological damage, reduce cravings and detoxify drugs that have accumulated in the body. It is available as a supplement, injection and iv therapy. Individual needs vary, so discuss your situation with your health professional.
